Robert was born in Bolton, Lancashire and is an experienced, established artist, who has exhibited widely in the UK and Europe for many years, including being represented in USA with works in numerous public and private collections.

His paintings are inspired and informed by the natural landscape: the resulting work is often a combination of observation, memory and experience.

There are particular places and environments which hold a sustained interest for him, and over a period of time, elements from these places have connected and merged becoming inextricably linked to states of mind, to particular events, memories, ideas and preoccupations.

Robert finds the changing relationship of weather and light upon the landscape constantly fascinating and this has a profound influence on the feel of his work.
The use of his palette evokes moods and feelings quite subjectively. The luminosity of light and colour experienced in the landscape fascinates him. The paintings evolve mostly through improvisation and working intuitively, he explores initial motifs and ideas without any fixed notions of meaning or of what a finished painting will look like.
